While boating down the river, the Devi and her defender Bappuran glimpsed the glow of Jaggeri being boiled at Kurammal Manor. They came ashore and asked to be installed in this sweet place. Legend is that the Kurammal people and Melayi Illam people granted land to the deity to establish a Devasthanam. During the three day annual festival, the Theyyams reach the temple only after going to these manors to express their respect. The temple still honours the integration of regional cultures and professions in the Theyyam legends that are portrayed.
