Vellinezhi, a small hamlet in Palakkad district, is a place with the rich tapestry of art forms and artistes and blessed with a rich cultural history. The place situated about 25 km north of Ottapalam, is celebrated for its legacy in Kathakali and the many numbers of art forms that thrive here. But very few people knew that the village is famous for making of Kathakali Koppu or simply Koppu. The creation of wooden headgears and ornaments has been for the last sixty-four years under the craftsmanship of the Kothavil family of carpenters from Vellinezhi village.

This village is also famed for its handmade ‘Adakkaputhur’ which enjoys a prime status with its unique craftsmanship.
