Kalaripayattu teaches five kinds of chuvadu or steps for the attack. The five kinds of steps are Aakka chuvadu, Neekka chuvadu, Chaatta chuvadu, Vatta chuvadu and Neeta chuvadu. All the techniques of Kalaripayattu involve the permutations and combinations of the various chuvadu.
