Valiyaparamba Backwaters

Valiyaparamba Backwaters

The Valiyaparamba backwaters, a large scenic water body is fed by four rivers. The backwaters get their name from Valiyaparamba Island, which is about 10 kms south of Nileswaram. This island, separated from the mainland, is also a prominent fishing centre.

River Tejaswini is one of the four rivers, along which tourists can enjoy a houseboat cruise surrounded by views of arecanut groves and coconut palms. Idayilakkadu is a beautiful island on the way, and is dotted with serpent groves.  One can see monkeys wandering around freely.

The cruise offers an intimate glimpse of village life along these backwaters and also the picturesque beauty of the vast river that surrounds them. The Bekal Resorts Development Corporation provides houseboat services on the Tejaswini River from Kottapuram in Neeleswaram to Kannur, through the Valiyaparamba backwaters. Apart from cruises, dinner at an island, canoeing and many other facilities are also arranged here.
