Kollakal Thapovanam is at Muthukulam, Alappuzha is owned by the renowned Kollakkayil Devaki Amma. She converted the five-acre homestead into a forest within a span of four decades. There are more than 600 species of trees including teak, mahogany, tamarind, mango trees, bamboo and pines. The forest is also home to exotic flora and fauna and rare species of herbs and shrubs and has more than 3000 trees. Devaki Amma received the Indira Gandhi Vrikshamithra Award from the Ministry of Environment and Forest in the year 2002 and the Nari Shakti Puruskar from the former Indian President, Ram Nath Kovind.
