A temple beyond the shore

A short boat ride through the Anchuthengu backwaters leads to Ponnumthuruthu, the ‘Golden Island’, where a more-than-century-old Shiva-Parvati temple sits among coconut groves. The island is especially lively during Sivarathri, when devotees arrive for the festival and spend the night here.
