The golden hour

It was a sunset that put Kakkathuruthu on the map. In 2016, National Geographic featured the tiny island in its Around the World in 24 Hours photographic journey, capturing Kakkathuruthu at dusk as the sky shifted colour over the backwaters. But look beyond the sunset and there is another reason the image works. Boats are still moving, fishermen are still working, people are still heading home. The sky may be putting on the show, but Kakkathuruthu’s evening is simply carrying on.
