Perumbalam has no shortage of old stories, and the Sasthankal Sree Dharma Sastha Temple has quite a few of its own. The shrine is traditionally believed to be around 1,200 years old, while the original temple was lost in the great flood of 1341 that changed the island’s landscape. Rebuilt over the centuries, the temple today remains part of Perumbalam’s living religious and cultural landscape.
