Through the elephant country

Wayanad’s forests are threaded with 'aanathara' - pathways used by elephants as they move through the landscape. Follow one of these routes and you begin to understand the forest differently: the broken branches, trampled grass, and narrow passages are signs of a world that has its own ancient rhythms. And then, sometimes, the real giants appear - elephants moving quietly through the trees and grass, completely at ease in their own world. There is something humbling about seeing them this way: not performing, not posing, simply following a path that belongs to them.
