Vechur Grama Sabha

The Vechur Grama Sabha conducted with the active participation of the public achieved great success. The Grama Sabha received the support and cooperation of the local community as well. The PEPPER tourism project is the most modern step in the Responsible Tourism initiative of the tourism department. In all Grama Sabhas, the RT Mission focused on creating projects that assure the involvement of local communities and local self-governments to bring forward programmes and events to decide the activities in each tourist destination.
This programme with MLA as chairman and Responsible Tourism Mission Coordinator as convener also included leaders of all local self-governing institutions, the DTPC Secretary, and the Tourism Deputy Director as members.
In the Grama Sabha which was chaired by the President, Vechur Grama Panchayath, Mr. K. Rupesh Kumar, Co-ordinator, Responsible Tourism Mission presented the objectives of the “PEPPER” project. After the inaugural ceremony, the Grama Sabha formed itself into seven groups and conducted discussions among them. The thrust areas of discussions were mainly related to Tourism Resource Mapping, tourism and primary facilities development,  combined tourism projects in agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, traditional occupations and tourism, arts, festivals, tour packages, human resource development, Kudumbasree and tourism projects.
The Responsible Tourism Mission of Kerala succeeds in ensuring public participation in tourism-related programmes and is making tourism more popular among the local communities through Grama Sabhas and PEPPER.
