Chalai Bazaar

A walk through the roads and lanes of the Chalai Bazaar in Thiruvananthapuram is the best way to get a real taste of this capital city of Kerala.

Situated close to the famed Padmanabha Swamy Temple, this shopping hub invites travellers to shop exclusive products of Kerala such as spices, handicrafts etc. The lanes are packed with shops and vendors selling kitchenware, household things, vegetables, flowers, furniture, food items etc. It is an old traditional bazaar and one that would provide you with a flavour of a typical Kerala market.

It is believed, that this street was established by Raja Kesavadas, Dewan of Travancore, towards the end of the 18th century for supplying things to the Travancore Kingdom.
