Pulikali or Kaduvakali

Tiger, tiger burning bright! - Not in the forests, though. These 'tigers', in groups of three or more, will 'burn' the streets and other public places with their energetic dances during festive seasons, and especially during Onam. The Kaduvakali or Pulikali ( the dance of the tiger), once performed all over the State, is now seen only in Thrissur and Palakkad districts. The scenes enacted by the performers include the tiger catching a goat, being hunted down and so on, accompanied by the loud beating of traditional percussion instruments like the udukku, the thakil and the chenda.
