K. R. Meera

K. R. Meera is one of Kerala’s most influential writers and journalists, known for her thought-provoking works that challenge traditional power structures and engage deeply with political and social issues. Her exceptional contributions to literature have earned her some of the most prestigious accolades, including the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, PUCL Human Rights National Award for Journalism, Odakkuzhal Award and Vayalar Award solidifying her status as a leading voice in contemporary Indian literature.

Meera was born in Sasthamkotta, Kollam district in Kerala. She is an alumna of D.B College, Sasthamcotta and Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. In 1993, she joined as a journalist in Kottayam-based Malayalam daily Malayala Manorama. During her career as a journalist, K. R. Meera uncovered several noteworthy stories, earning her the Chowara Parameswaran Award and the Deepalaya National Journalism Award for Child Rights.
