St. Mary's Church in Manarcad, located just 8 kilometers from Kottayam town, is one of the most significant churches for the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Christian community. Known for its rich history and spiritual importance, the church is particularly famous for its annual ettunompu (eight-day fasting) festival, which draws thousands of devotees seeking blessings.

The church, also known as St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Cathedral, is celebrated as the Global Marian Pilgrim Centre and is the only church in Malankara whose site was believed to be divinely revealed. The main event at the church is the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, celebrated on September 8th. This festival is preceded by the historic eight-day Lent, where pilgrims from across the globe gather to participate in spiritual practices and seek the intercession of the Holy Mother.

Founded centuries ago, St. Mary's Church has always upheld its allegiance to the Holy Apostolic Throne of Antioch and All the East. The parish, which covers 12 areas (Kara), consists of about 3,000 families and is served by a dedicated team of priests. The church's administration is overseen by a general body, Edavakapothuyogam, which ensures that the parish's educational and service institutions are well-managed.
