Ponnumthuruthu Island, Thiruvananthapuram

Caressed by the Anjengo Backwaters the Ponnumthuruthu Island, located near Varkala is among the most beautiful uninhabited islands in all of Kerala. A hub of migratory birds, the island lying 20 km from Varkala and accessible only by a special jetty from Nedunganda Village, is of five-acre radius and is kissed by the serene waters of the Akathumuri lake.

The place also home to a quaint and charming 100-year-old Shiva-Parvathi Temple. People head here for the rustic vibe, friendly locals and magnificent visuals. Surely, Ponnumthuruthu or Golden Island is one of the ‘not-to-be-missed’ stop-overs in Thiruvananthapuram.
