One of the biggest of the Goshree Islands, Vypeen has the most charming beaches in Kochi like Kuzhupilly, Puthuvype, Cherai and Munambam. The island is about 27 kilometres long and is connected to mainland of Kochi by a series of bridges, which start at Kalamukku in Vypeen.
The place is blessed with some of the longest beaches in Kochi namely, the Cherai Beach, Kuzhuppilly Beach and the Puthuvype Beach. Munambam Fishing Harbour, the largest fishing harbour in Kochi is also located here.
The place is also has many temples like the ancient ElamkunnapuzhaSubrahmanya Temple, Cherai Temple, Palathankulangara Devi Temple, AzeekalVarahamoorthy Temple etc.
Some of the major tourist destinations here are the Lighthouse at Puthuvype(whichopen from 3 pm to 5 pm every day), Cherai Beach, Sahodaran Ayyappan Smarakam,Cruz Milagress Church built in 1932 and the Kuzhuppilly Beach.
Pallipuram Fort - a 16th century Portuguese fort included in Muziris Heritage Project is situated in the northern extremity of the Vypeen Island.
