Oppana

Oppana, the ceremonial dance of Kerala’s Muslim community, is performed on wedding eves with the bride seated at the centre, surrounded by maidens clapping and singing Mappila songs. Originating from Arab traditions blended with Kerala’s folk rhythms, Oppana is marked by vibrant movements, teasing verses, and the joyous energy of community celebration. Variations like Oppana Chayal (without claps) and Oppana Murukkam (fast with claps) add richness to this art form.
