Maliyekkal House, Thalassery

Maliyekkal House, Thalassery

Maliyekkal House in Thalassery, built in 1919 by Kadankandi Kuttiyamu Haji, stands as a fine example of Kerala’s ancestral mansions with tiled roofs, carved wooden pillars, and colonial influences. Beyond its architectural charm, the house is remembered for its role in social reform, particularly through P. M. Mariyumma, who pioneered English education for Muslim women and championed progress in education and employment.

Korome Mosque

The Korome Mosque, one of the oldest places of worship in Wayanad, is over 300 years old and built in the traditional Kerala style of wooden architecture. Believed to have been inaugurated by Sainudeen Maqdoom II, the mosque preserves a handwritten copy of the Prophet’s sayings and stands as a testament to religious harmony. The site, which also houses his grave, is a revered pilgrimage centre and hosts the annual Uroos festival that draws large gatherings of devotees.
