Pattambi Nercha

Pattambi Nercha

Pattambi, about 55 kms from Palakkad is famous for Pattambi Nercha, the annual feast at the Pattambi Mosque. The feast is held in memory of Aloor Valiya Pookunjikoya Thangal, a Muslim saint of Malabar.

The festival is marked by a colourful procession of caparisoned elephants, decorated floats and traditional musical ensembles like the Thayambaka and the Panchavadyam. People from various places flow in to take part in the rituals and celebrations. With colourful serial lights and electric bulbs illuminating the town, the entire scene is a feast to the eyes.

Along with the many rituals and offerings that are carried out as part of the festival, various folk art forms like Duffumuttu and Kolkali are also performed at the festival. By night, the procession ends on the banks of the Bharathapuzha with the concerts rising to a crescendo.
