Ayyappan Kovil Hanging Bridge, Idukki
Ayyappan Kovil Hanging Bridge in Idukki stretches across a river valley lined with forested slopes and high-range terrain. The suspension bridge connects two sides of the valley through a narrow elevated walkway, set against dense greenery. In misty conditions, the structure becomes partially covered, with only sections of the bridge and nearby trees clearly visible while the rest remains obscured.
Walking across the bridge in such weather, visibility is limited and changes as the mist moves. At certain points, parts of the valley and slopes appear briefly, while at other times the bridge is surrounded by fog. The long span of the structure and its minimal design remain visible in sections, with the pathway continuing across the valley between the two ends.
The bridge was originally built to connect Ayyappan Kovil and Kanchiyar panchayaths across the river. Located near the Sastha Temple at Mattukatta, it is now a known stop for visitors exploring this part of Idukki. The area is accessible by road, and the bridge remains open throughout the day without an entry fee. It is often visited along with nearby destinations in the high-range region, including viewpoints, forest areas and dam-related sites.
