Kerala Kalamandalam, established in 1930 by poet Vallathol Narayana Menon and Manakkulam Mukunda Raja, stands as the foremost institution for traditional performing arts in Kerala. The institution not only preserved Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Kutiyattam, Thullal, Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam and Nangiar Koothu, but also integrated Panchavadyam (traditional percussion ensemble) and Modern Theatre into its curriculum.
