Graceful dance by women groups - Thiruvathira

A unique dance form performed by women groups on the auspicious day of Thiruvathira in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December-January). As per tradition the day is observed as the birthday of Lord Siva and another version has that it is the day when God of Love Kamadeva was resurrected. This unique dance form is also performed in association with the state festival of Kerala, Onam. Thiruvathirakali performances include groups of up to eight or ten women dressed in traditional Kerala attire, dancing in a circle.
