Majestic looking elephants adorned with ornate golden nettipattoms on their foreheads, the captivating beats of the thunderous music of the panchavadyam (five traditional instruments), spectacular fireworks, teeming millions intoxicated with the festive spirit - its all this and more that makes the world-famous Thrissur Pooram an unforgettable experience for any tourist.
The festival is celebrated annually in April-May at the Vadakkumnathan temple at Thrissur, one of the oldest temples in the State. The temple is a classical example of the Kerala style of architecture and has many murals and pieces of art.
