Chuttippara
Rising 200 feet above the landscape, Chuttippara in Pathanamthitta district is a breathtaking destination renowned for its stunning sunrise and sunset views. This majestic rock formation offers a panoramic vista of Pathanamthitta town and is crowned by the revered Harihara Mahadeva Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is not only a significant religious site but also steeped in mythology, with legends suggesting that Lord Rama himself worshipped here.
The area around Chuttippara features three additional hills—Chelavirichapara, Kattadipara, and Pulipara—each steeped in lore from the Ramayana. Chelavirichapara is said to be the place where Goddess Sita spread her clothes to dry, with the name deriving from "chela" (clothes) and "viricha" (spread out). Kattadipara, known for its strong winds, is linked to Hanuman, the monkey god, who is believed to have found refuge here.
Pulipara is notable for its cave, or "guha," which local legend holds was used by Lord Rama and Goddess Sita as shelter. A natural shelf within this cave supposedly served as a resting place for the divine couple.
Chuttippara is not only a site of historical and mythological significance but also a haven for nature enthusiasts. The area is rich in plant and animal life, making it a popular spot for those interested in both history and the natural world. The combination of its awe-inspiring views, historical temples, and natural beauty makes Chuttippara a must-visit destination in Central Kerala.
