A temple blending Hindu and Jain architecture, renowned for its copper-roofed dome, sacred well, and intricate carvings, nestled on the banks of the Madhuvahini River.

The Sree Madanantheswara Sidhivinayaka Temple, commonly known as the Madhur Temple, is a revered spiritual site located about 8 kilometers from Kasaragod town in Kerala. Situated on the serene banks of the Madhuvahini River, the temple is a significant place of worship, particularly for devotees of Lord Shiva and Lord Ganapathi. The temple's peaceful setting, surrounded by paddy fields and coconut trees, adds to its spiritual ambiance, attracting worshippers and visitors alike.

The temple is renowned for its unique architectural features, including a three-tiered dome with copper-plated roofing and a beautifully cloistered courtyard. The temple was originally built by the Mypadi rulers of Kumbla in the 10th century and underwent renovations in the 15th century. It showcases a blend of Hindu and Jain architectural styles, evident in the intricately carved wooden pillars and beams, as well as the stucco images that adorn the walls and roofs, depicting scenes from Indian mythology. The Namaskara Mandapam, a pavilion in front of the sanctum, is adorned with wood carvings illustrating episodes from the Ramayana.

A deep well within the temple compound holds water that is believed to have curative properties, remaining untouched by sunlight. The temple also holds historical significance, with legends linking it to the Kumbla ruler Jai Simha I and the famous warrior Tipu Sultan. According to local lore, Tipu Sultan intended to destroy the temple during his military campaign but changed his mind after drinking water from the temple's well, leaving only a dagger mark as evidence of his visit.

Madhur Temple is especially significant during festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi and the annual Madhur Bedi, a vibrant five-day event. One of the temple's unique rituals is the Moodappa Seva, where a large idol of Ganapathi is covered with Appam, a sweet offering made of rice and ghee. This ritual, although rare, was last held in 1992. The temple also offers regular Veda classes during the summer, providing young students with the opportunity to learn the basics of Sanskrit.
