Neelimala is situated near the town of Vaduvanchal in Wayanad district, Kerala. Neelimala translates to "the blue mountain" and refers to the mist enveloping these mountains during early morning hours. The trek to the top of the hill for a view from the peak is what brings people to this place.  Wildlife safari and camping are also popular among tourists visiting Neelimala hills. Adventurous visitors also have an option for rappelling down waterfalls in the area.

History of the Place
In earlier times, Neelimala played an important part in trade operations and linked Wayanad with the coastal regions in Kerala. Over the centuries, various kingdoms including the Cheras and the Vijayanagara Empire ruled Wayanad. Britishers during their rule established tea estates at Neelimala.  Neelimala stands as a testament to these events which have left cultural imprints on the place.

The Journey to the Peak
An ideal spot to admire nature, the Neelimala Viewpoint is accessible by a ride in a jeep to the forest followed by a trek. The viewpoint offers hikers with spectacular views of the Meenmutty Waterfalls and the Western Ghats. The trail passes through coffee and ginger plantations and you can see a variety of birds. The journey through the dense forests to expansive grasslands as you ascend the hills is a treat for adventure enthusiasts. The viewpoint is set against mist-covered slopes and unique boulder formations.
