Thazhathangady Juma Masjid, situated on the banks of the Meenachil River in Kottayam, is one of the oldest mosques in India, believed to date back over 1,000 years. Built by Habib Dinar, son of Malik Dinar, it is celebrated for its temple-like architecture with a square inner courtyard, intricately carved wooden gabled roof, and latticed windows. The mosque exemplifies the thachu shastra style of Kerala’s traditional carpentry.
