This is Kumbilappam, a traditional snack item of Keralites. Also known as Therali Appam, it is prepared by mixing rice flour, grated coconut and jaggery. What makes this snack unique is the use of Vayana or Therali leaves (Bay Leaves). The mixture is wrapped and steamed in these leaves. These leaves have special aroma and has some medicinal values also. In some region, Chakka (jackfruit) is also mixed with rice flour to make this evening snack.
