Mattool Beach, Kannur
Mattool Beach is one of the notable beaches along the Kannur coastline, located around 20 kilometres from Kannur town. The beach opens out to the Arabian Sea, with waves breaking evenly along a wide stretch of sand. People are seen scattered along the shore and shallow waters, using the beach as a space to walk, stand by the sea, and spend time outdoors.
Running parallel to the shoreline is the village landscape of Mattool, marked by dense coconut groves and low-rise buildings. The settlement lies close to the beach, with no sharp separation between the coast and everyday habitation. This proximity gives the beach a lived-in quality, where the sea remains part of daily surroundings rather than a distant backdrop.
Mattool’s coastal setting is further defined by its geographical location near the meeting point of the Valapattanam River and the Kuppam River, before they flow into the sea. While this river confluence historically shaped the village, today the beach stands out as a prominent feature of the area. Open views, steady wave patterns, and easy access continue to make Mattool Beach an important part of Kannur’s coastal landscape.
