Also known as the Pallivillu, Onavillu is a ceremonial bow presented to the deities in the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram during the festive season of Onam. Onavillu depicting Ananthashayanam is presented to the deity of Maha Vishu in Ananthashayanam.
By tradition, the right for making Onavillu is vested with the Vilayil Veedu family. Onavillu comes in standard sizes ranging from 3.5 ft to 4.5 ft in length and 5 ft to 6 ft in width.
Mini Onavillu or Cheru Onavillu is a small version of the original Onavillu and comes in just a foot's length. The Mini Onavillu is appropriate for areas where space is a constraint. They are made from the wood of Kadambu, Maruthu, Jack Fruit and Aanjili trees.
