Jeeva Karunya Panchakam

‘Panchakam’ implies five-fold or consisting of five parts in Sanskrit. Of the five ‘Panchakams’ Guru has authored, ‘Jeeva Karunya Panchakam’ (Five Verses on Mercy to Living Beings) is the most noteworthy. This is a work that extolls the virtues of non-violence.

Filled with verses of compassion towards fellow beings and nature, ‘Jeeva Karunya Panchakam’ conveys the idea that all matters should be approached with the heart and not with reason.

The foundation of Sree Narayana’s philosophy is firmly rooted in compassion. Guru was a teacher who reiterated the importance of constantly reflecting on and practicing Dharma. His worldview reconciles God, man, and history. He called on humanity to overcome the logic of caste through an all-encompassing love.

Jaathi Nirnnayam

What is caste? What is the relationship between caste and birth? What is the essence of 'One Caste, One Religion, One God’? Guru composed the poem ‘Jaathi Nirnnayam’ (Determination of Caste) in order to address such questions.

Through this work, composed in 1914, Guru demonstrates that the rejection of caste is the result of scientific thought and philosophical understanding. Guru aimed to enlighten a society that was culturally degenerating due to caste differences through scientific reasoning. Through rejecting the Varna system and caste consciousness, Guru was trying to establish the concept of equality.

Jaathi Lakshanam

‘Jaathi Lakshanam’ (Characteristics of Caste) is a poem written by Guru at the request of Sahodaran Ayyappan and published in the magazine ‘Sahodaran’. It is a poem that describes the scientific background of Guru's rejection of caste. This poem was composed in 1914.

Realizing that caste cannot be eradicated from the human mind merely through advice, this poem scientifically refutes misconceptions related to caste. Guru logically tries to understand the characteristics of humanity and why humans differentiate themselves based on profession and skin colour. He uses this work to highlight humanity’s shared essence.
