Paravur Church

St. Thomas Jacobite Syrian Church, located in North Paravur, is the place where the mortal remains of the Syrian Orthodox Archbishop of Jerusalem - St.Gregorios Abdul' Galeel is entombed. The church established in 1566 C.E is also known by the name Cheriapally. The church celebrates two major festivals one is the Dhukrono of St.Gregorios Abdul' Jaleel Bava on 27th April. The other is the Dhukrono of St. Thomas, the Apostle on 3rd July and during the festival is the Valiyappam Nercha. Valiyappam or big bread is a Christian delicacy by Keralities and is made out of rice flour and molasses fried in coconut oil.
