Located in Thalankara, Kasaragod, the Malik Dinar Juma Masjid is one of the oldest and most revered mosques in India. Built in the traditional Kerala architectural style, the mosque is believed to have been founded by Malik Ibn Dinar, a prominent Tabi'in and one of the first to introduce Islam to the Indian subcontinent.
In 624 CE, Malik Ibn Dinar and his 12 associates, including his brother Sharaf Ibn Malik and nephew Malik Ibn Habeeb, arrived in Kerala from Arabia - not just as traders, but as spiritual emissaries.
The mosque was originally established on 13th Rajab, 22 Hijra (642 CE), and Malik Ibn Dinar’s son, Malik Ibn Muhammad, was appointed as its first Qazi. The mosque was later reconstructed in 1809 CE (1223 Hijra) with the support of the local community, underscoring its enduring spiritual and cultural significance.
The mosque houses the qabar of Malik Ibn Muhammad, making it a sacred site for pilgrims. Every year, the arrival of Malik Ibn Dinar is celebrated with great reverence, drawing devotees from across Kerala and beyond.
