This is a video on the preparation of Vellarikka Kichadi - a main side dish in Kerala Sadya. Vellarikka Kichadi is a cucumber in curd side dish which is easy to make and refreshingly cool.
Cucumber (cut into very small pieces) - 2 cups
Curd (not sour) - 1 cup
Grated coconut- ½ cup
Green chillies (cut into small round pieces) - 3
Small onions - 2
Cumin seeds- ½ tsp
Mustard seeds- ½ tsp
Method of preparation
Grind together the grated coconut, small onions and cumin seeds. Add crushed mustard seeds to it and mix well.
Cook the cucumber along with some water, chillies and salt. When the entire water in the vessel has been used up, add the ground coconut mixture and mix well.
Season with spluttered mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves. After the mixture is cooled, add curd and mix well.
