Dharmadam

Dharmadam

Dharmadam, known as a Buddhist stronghold in ancient times, is situated about four kilometers from Thalassery. The place is now famous for the 100-year-old Brennan College and the adjacent Dharmadam islands. The Anjarakandy and Thalassery rivers enclose the island on the three sides, with the Arabian Sea bordering the fourth.

Dharmadam Island

The calm and secluded Dharmadam island, a mere 100 meters from the Dharmadam beach, is protected by the District Tourism Promotion Council. The island is accessible only by boat during low tides, when the water recedes sufficiently to reveal the sandy passage across the partly submerged laterite rocks. The island, with its coconut palms, green bushes and migratory birds, is a fascinating picnic spot. For an overnight stay at the island, one must contact the State Department of Tourism.
