Pattambi Town

Pattambi Town

Pattambi acts as a synapse to the three prominent districts of Palakkad, Malappuram and Thrissur. One of the biggest towns in Palakkad, Pattambi is located on the banks of the mighty Bharathapuzha river. The town holds great importance for its cultural contributions to the state.

Pattambi was once the principal seat of Sanskrit learning, which produced many eminent scholars and literary figures. Punnasseri Nambi, a renowned Sanskrit scholar and teacher, is one among them. In 1889, Neelakanta Sharma, another great scholar created a Sanskrit school in Pattambi called 'Sarasvatodyathini'. It eventually grew into a college that nurtured famous litterateurs like Kuttikrishna Marar and poet P. Kunhiraman Nair.

Pattambi also boasts of having one of the first Agricultural Research Centres in the Malabar area, established in 1927.
