Pothundy Dam

Pothundy dam is situated en route Nelliyampathy, about 8 kms from Nemmara. It is one of the oldest dams in India. Built in the 19th century, Pothundy is known for the unusual ingredients that went into building it. The dam was constructed using a mixture of molasses and quicklime instead of the usual concrete. It is built across Meenachadypuzha and Padipuzha rivers, which are tributaries of Ayalar River.

Pothundy dam is the major water source for people in Chittur taluk. There is also a garden and a walking track on top of the reservoir. The picture perfect location of the dam, surrounded by mountains, draws a lot of visitors here.
