Kudamaloor St. Mary's Feast

Kudamaloor Church

The Christian community of Kudamaloor was brought there by the King of Chempakassery. A church was set up there in CE 1126 in the name of Virgin Mary. The annual feast of St. Mary as Our Lady of Sorrows is on September 8. This is a great feast in Kudamaloor.

A bell and the Paten, donated to the church by the King, are still preserved. The crawling on all fours on Maundy Thursday night and on Good Friday and the Payasam offering on the Feast of Virgin Mary are very famous. The stone cross of the church is centuries old. The picture of Holy Mary kept at the Altar too is very old. Certain documents have described Kudamaloor as Kudavaloor too.  The land donated by the King of Thekkumkoor was demarcated using a Koduval, a sharp weapon, and the place got the name Koduvaloor.  Issue less couples light lamps around the cross and also make the payasam offering to have children. The church that was renovated recently, has some remnants of the past including the baptismal font, a cross, the sanctuary etc.
