Kottakkunnu

Kottakkunnu

The cantonment hills of Kottakkunnu, bordered by an estuary on the North, lies in the heart of Malappuram district. The place derives its name from an old fort built by the Zamorin rulers of Kozhikode. Traces of the old fort (kotta in Malayalam) can be seen on these hills (kunnu in Malayalam) which lie close to the District Collectorate.

The area was revamped and entertainment facilities were put up, adding value to the place as a tourist destination. The murals at the nearby Vettakkorumakan and Siva temples form another attraction.
