Anglo Indians

From the time of the Portuguese, due encouragement was given to the intermarriage between the Portuguese and Kerala women. From such intermarriages, there evolved a new community named Anglo Indians. They are found mostly in Goa and Kochi. People with Portuguese, English, and Dutch family names could now be seen in Goa, Kochi, Thangassery, Chalakkudy, Kozhikode, and Thalassery. They are the descendants of the Portuguese, Dutch and English who married Kerala women and settled down here. Their food habits, style of dressing, and customs and conventions are quite different from that of other Christians.
