Sacred Rock Formation Overlooking the Western Ghats

One of the most recognisable features of Thirunettikkallu is the massive rock formation positioned at the summit of the hill. The stone rises sharply from the slope, framed by tall grass and scattered shrubs, with layered mountain ranges stretching into the distance. The elevation and open setting make the rock a natural focal point within the landscape.

The rock formation is locally associated with religious significance and is believed to be the origin of the name Thirunettikkallu, meaning “holy forehead stone.” Its shape and placement between surrounding boulders give it a distinctive presence, standing apart from the surrounding terrain. The narrow path leading up to the rock highlights the rugged nature of the climb and the effort required to reach the summit.

Beyond the rock, the view opens out across dense forest cover and rolling hills that form part of the Western Ghats. The absence of built structures allows the scale of the landscape to remain uninterrupted. On clear days, this elevated point offers long-distance visibility across Kannur district and into neighbouring regions, reinforcing Thirunettikkallu’s character as a quiet yet dramatic hilltop destination shaped by geology, altitude, and open space.
