Beaches

Beaches are a must-go-to itinerary for every traveller. Check out the most beautiful beaches around Muziris below :

Cherai beach

Cherai beach located in Vypin island north of Fort Kochi is a low gradient beach frequented mostly by people who prefer to have a swim in the sea. The sandy beach lined with coconut palms sets a calm and tranquil mood, ideal for those who seek an escape from the crowd. It has a walkway and a children’s park, making it a perfect family picnic spot. Dolphin sightings are common here. The beach gives a picturesque image of the backwaters merging with the Arabian Sea.

Munakkal Beach

The picturesque Munakkal beach is located in Azhikode on the coast of Arabian Sea. Situated 7 kms from Kodungallur town, Munakkal is the largest beach in Thrissur district.

The beach was revived as part of the tsunami rehabilitation programme as the Azhikode – Munakkal beach project. The place is also differently-abled friendly, with 26 wheelchair ramps installed across the beach. A 1300-metre walkway, toilets, food courts, skateboarding grip for children and a rain shelter are some of the facilities available at the beach. Another attraction here is the casuarina forest set up by the Kerala Forest Department. The beach enjoys distinct importance in the Muziris map as it is part of the Muziris Heritage Project. A plan to add more tourist amenities such as a boat jetty, water taxis, more walkways and facilities for entertainment is on the anvil.
