Overview

Chengazhimattom mana is an ancient typical Kerala brahmin house situated in the banks of Meenachil river. The building is more than 300 years old. The traditional layout of a mana consist of an open courtyard in the middle and it is called “nadumittam”. The mana is a typical “naalukettu” form of Kerala brahmin houses. “The mana” is situated in the middle of a hectre of land. This consist of many plants and trees including mainly nutmeg, banana, coconut etc.
The building is surrounded with greenery. Also there are “Kaavu” which is a worshipping place for snakes and a very good example of an ecosystem because the area around the “kaavu” is undisturbed.

We visited Chengazhimattom mana for traditional building documentation for 3 days. The hosts were pleasant and friendly. The nalukettu house is enveloped by greenery all around. The stone steps flanking the outhouse leads to a bathing ghat at the banks of Meenachil river. The location, though close to Kottayam town, is peaceful and suitable for a tranquil getaway.

We had a very comfortable stay at the Mana. Rooms are very clean and the surroundings are green and peaceful. The food is delicious.

We visited and stayed at The Mana - Heritage Chengazhimattom on 9th April 2022 and checked out on 10th April 2022. We loved the place a lot and it was a pleasure and wonderful experience. Kuttettan and Saraswathi Edathi who owns this place are the most hospitable people we have ever met. The food here through out our stay was amazingly tasty and home cooked, and it is complementary as well. The quality of the food and the quantity is way better than what you get at other places. We had Chappathis, Veg Curry and Raitha for dinner on the 9th and Idlis, Sambhar, Chutney, Podi and Cooked Banana with Pappadam and coffee to accompany for breakfast on the 10th. They invited us to stay for lunch, but sice we were on a tight schedule, we politely declined. This is the best place to stay in and around Kottayam if you want a great, homely and lovely experience. We loved it, and you will too.
