The May 2007 special issue of Time magazine finds Fort Kochi in Kerala mentioned in their feature on ?The Best of Asia?. And the reason! Time, the magazine with a worldwide readership and acceptance has picked Malabar House as the ?Best Boutique Hotel? from India. The reckoning by Time magazine would without doubt bring cheer to Malabar House and also for the hospitality industry of Kerala. The hotel is part of a chain of small boutique and villa hotels in Kerala.
According to ?Time?, Malabar House is a fine example of a boutique hotel, which has not lost its charm to luxury. Further the magazine finds the hotel a rare exception that combines elegance, style and comfort. In terms of ambiance, the renovated colonial villa occupies a position far removed from the great heritage palace hotels of Rajasthan, feels the magazine. The magazine also finds the location of hotel very interesting as it is in the middle of a heritage conservation zone with one of India?s oldest churches, St. Francis Church, and the Chinese fishing nets just a stone?s throw away.
Besides the rejuvenating ayurvedic massage, garden, pool and private verandahs with comfortable lounge chairs, Malabar House also caught the attention of Time magazine with its seafood restaurant ? Malabar Junction. As per the magazine, the menu, a mix of Mediterranean dishes and Portuguese Indian cuisine adds value to one?s stay at this hotel.
Time concludes its findings on Malabar House with these words. ?The Malabar House, as its name suggests, is less a boutique hotel than the home of a well-traveled aesthete boasting wit, warmth and an eye for whimsy.?
