State Tourism Award Winner

Malabar House in Fort Kochi

Winner of the Kerala Tourism Award for the best heritage hotel, Malabar House is situated in the heart of Fort Kochi. The hotel is housed in a heritage building facing the St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India.  This unique heritage hotel has a leaf of its own in the history of Cochin. Its history dates back to 1755, when Jan Herman Clausing, a Dutchman, bought the property from Mathew Henrich Beyls. Subsequently owned by spice traders, tea traders and bankers, in 1996 it became Fort Cochin's first boutique heritage hotel.

Seamlessly combining the traditional and contemporary designs and plans the hotel is furnished with select antiques and art that make it an art hotel with a carefully curated collection, highlighting Kerala's composite culture. The Malabar House has 17 unique rooms and suites. Each of these 17 rooms is a haven of tranquility amidst a bustling harbour city. Apart from the suites the hotel also has five roof garden suites on the 1st floor and 11 deluxe rooms on the ground floor.

The hotel is ideally located for sightseeing, shopping and backwater cruises. The Portuguese forts, Dutch and British churches, Chinese fishing nets and Jewish shops selling local spices and fabrics are all within striking distance. Malabar House offers you an array of experiences tailor-made for the discerning traveller or small, culture oriented groups. These include museum tours, music and dance, Ayurvedic treatments and the acclaimed fine dining. After savouring the magnetic charm of the sunset you can dine in style on Indian or European cuisine at the hotel's poolside restaurant. Divine, the wine lounge creates a magical setting to reveal and celebrate the emergence of Indian wines.

Malabar House has won best heritage hotel awards from the Kerala Government (and others) and was the first operation in India to be certified by Green Globe, the global environmental certification programme for travel and tourism. Truly Malabar House rewrites the norms and rules of hospitality.
