Kerala, God's Own Country, possesses an unbroken tradition of Ayurveda, the science of life and longevity. Nine kilometer south of the renowned Kovalam beach in Thiruvananthapuram is Somatheeram Ayurvedic Beach Resort, one of the earliest Ayurvedic resorts in the world. Located on a hillock at Chowara, this beach resort is spread over 15 acres of lush greenery.

Ayurvedic life is the soul and essence of Somatheeram Ayurvedic Beach Resorts. The resort, which is more than two decades old, offers traditional Ayurvedic therapies as well as Yoga in a serene environment. The resort has a special Ayurveda beauty clinic that offers age-old beauty care therapies with various herbs, herbal extracts, fresh fruits and natural products. These therapies are claimed to have been used by the royal families of India.

The resort provides good accommodation facilities including 24 hours room service, Internet, telephone fax, tour and travel assistance etc. A restaurant facing the sea is another highlight of Somatheeram. About 250 different Ayurvedic vegetarian dishes, salads and juices are available for the guests to choose from. Non-vegetarian and multi-cuisine foods are also available here.

The resort also provides an opportunity to enjoy the beauty and charisma of various art forms of Kerala. Cultural programmes are arranged in the evenings for the guests to get themselves acquainted with the rich heritage of this land. Other quintessential Kerala experiences include participation in festivals and Kerala sadya, the traditional festival feast.

Recreation options in the form of indoor games, boating and elephant rides are also arranged at the resort. At the resort Mehndi designing (art work done on hand using plant extract) is arranged once in a week, which has become quite popular among the foreign guests. And at the gift shop in the resort, one would come across a wide array of souvenirs and trinkets. Those interested in the traditional Indian attire can get it tailor-made from the resort itself.
