Kochi-Muziris Biennale

From now on Kochi will have surprises to unveil at every corner.

Yes! India’s largest contemporary art event, Kochi-Muziris Biennale has been kicked off. The city has transformed itself into a platform for artistic expressions.

Kochi Biennale takes place at various destinations in and around Fort Kochi and Ernakulam. This is the fourth edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, and will be conducted under the curatorship of the artist and critic Ms Anita Dube. The theme this year is “Possibilities for a Non-alienated Life”.

In a span of 108 days, both Indian and international artists will showcase their skills via a variety of mediums such as film, installation, sculpture, new media and art performances. The first edition of Kochi Biennale was organized in 2012, and it exhibited works of 89 artists from 23 countries around the world.

Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an international exhibition of contemporary art and is also the biggest of its kind in the whole of Asia. The exhibition has benefited Kochi the most by giving it a prominent space in the maps of the International Biennale fests.

Kochi Biennale conducts seminars, workshops and educational reform programmes too. Through the years, it has not only succeeded in transforming Kerala into a cultural hotspot of the country but also helped conserve heritage properties and monuments in the region and given substantial fillip to traditional forms of art and culture.

The public funding of Kochi Biennale can be seen as an investment for encouraging more creative innovations. The events this year will be held at multiple venues across Kochi such as Aspinwall House, Cabral Yard, David Hall, Pepper House and so forth.

This art carnival will certainly give you things to cherish.

Come. Rediscover the transformative power of art.
