How often have you been to a thriving lush green forest that bursts with a myriad species of flora and fauna? Here is one such place in Malappuram district of Kerala which offers an ideal place for trekking – Nedumkayam in Nilambur.

Being a part of the Nilgiri Bio Reserve, Nedumkayam has all the ingredients to make your trip splendid. The rainforest of Nilambur is a treasure trove of biodiversity. With breathtaking views, tribal settlements, waterfalls and small streams, the place is truly a ravishing beauty.

Trekking Trail
Trekking through the riveting woods of Nedumkayam will take you to Mundakadav waterfalls, one of the most beautiful sights in the region. On your way to this shower of liquid pearls, if you are lucky enough, you will get a chance to watch the gentle jumbos freely roaming and playing in the waters of Chaliyar.

Visiting time: 10.00 AM to 04.30 PM

Conolly’s Plot
Conolly’s Plot, one of the oldest teak plantations in the world, is another major attraction of the place. To reach this grove you should take a short walk through the Kerala Forest Department area and then cross the pretty hanging bridge built across river Chaliyar. One of the oldest surviving man-made teak plantations of the world, Conolly’s Plot will surprise you with its copious number of trees and green space.

Visiting hours: 09.00 AM to 05.00 AM

Teak Museum
A museum exclusively dedicated to teak is another unique experience that Nilambur offers. A model of `Kannimara teak', the oldest naturally growing teak tree located at the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, a life-size replica of the trunk of the largest known teak growing in Malayattoor forest, and an extensive root system of a 55- year-old teak are some of the captivating exhibits here.

Visiting time: 10.00 AM to 04.30 PM

Stroll around. Stop. Take a deep breath. Walk again. Nilambur is a living green gem.
