Escape to Ashtamudi: A Paradise of Coconut Trees and Serene Islets

Coconut trees and islets line the beautiful stretch of Ashtamudi backwaters. Whether you are looking for a pleasure trip or a houseboat cruise, Ashtamudi tops the list of choices. If you are game for it, the local boatmen will take you on a boat ride close to the mangroves and the islands so that you get a taste of life close to the backwaters.

For a Nature lover, Ashtamudi is of great interest. Ashtamudi, the deepest estuary in the state, was designated as Ramsar Site in November 2002. It is home to many endangered species, and acts as the ecosystem for many mangrove species, birds, fishes, etc. It is estimated that around 20000 water fowls visit the backwaters annually. Ashtamudi is shaped like a palm that has eight branches, and hence the name.

Munroe island is a famous island located in the confluence of Ashtamudi lake and Kallada river. Enjoy a relaxing stay in an affordable homestay or go boating to explore the beauty of the island.

Avail various options which combine houseboat cruise and resort stay with varying experiences of multicuisine meals and comfy stay. You can relax all the way, taking in the irresistible charm of the ambience. The eight-hour-long cruise from Kollam to Alappuzha is a must try when you visit Ashtamudi backwaters. You can also experience the boat travel to other islands in this area.
