Vellinezhi

For anyone with a taste for art and art forms, Vellinezhi is the perfect destination. A small village in Palakkad, Vellinezhi has over the decades emerged as the treasure trove of various art forms. Mostly known for its association with Kathakali, Vellinezhi has witnessed many different art forms thrive and flourish. Drop in at the place where costumes and gears of Kathakali are made. Be awed by the sheer artistry and intricate handiwork that showcase the art form with immaculate perfection. Carpenters from Vellinezhi who make these wooden headgears and ornaments would happily narrate their experiences of creation and craftsmanship.

Vellinezhi is home to Olappamanna mana which had produced famous exponents in Kathakali, percussion as well as classical music and Sanskrit language. The famous `Kalluvazhi chitta` took birth at Olappamanna. The annual cultural event Thaadiyarangu draws viewers from many places as it brings together different Kathakali artistes who enact scenes from different stories.

Around 50 art forms are regularly practised and trained here and has earned for the village the title `Kalagramam` [artistic village]. After touring the art centres, workshops and Olappamanna manna, end your day with a relaxed walk along the sprawling paddy fields and breezy village lanes. Vellinezhi is not just a magnet for art lovers, it is a living tale of how art gets woven with and into life.
